Looking to make a delicious apple pie with a healthy twist? Follow this super simple recipe and your taste buds will thank you..and your waist line!
Okay, so this isn’t something to eat when you are trying to drop a few lbs, but this version is definitely healthier than the regular go to apple pie recipe.
I use store bought crusts, but if you make your own more power to you.
What you need:
2 Pie Crusts
Pie Dish ( and those cool crust covers if you have one!)
6 Apples peeled (I like Green or Mac)
1/4 cup Coconut Sugar
1 tbs. Coconut Oil Melted
2 Tbs. Lemon Juice
1/2 Tsp of each Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Ginger, Salt
2 Tbs. All Purpose Flour
How to Cook:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Lightly brush the pie dish with the melted coconut oil and place first pie crust down.
Peel all the apples and slice thin. Place into large bowl and add in the sugar, lemon juice and seasonings until they are all coated.
Add in the flour and coat apples as best you can.
Layer apple mixture onto the pie crust and then add the other crust to cover. Lightly brush with remainder of coconut oil.
Cook pie for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown.
Eat and enjoy! Remember, this recipe uses a significantly smaller amount of sugar than most apple pie recipes. Why add all the sugar when you have the natural sweetness from the apples? Hope you like it!
