Don’t just go for the easy pre-made jarred spaghetti sauce, make your own! I promise that it is extremely simple and tastes great ( and probably even better than that processed crap.)
Remember, when you make something in your own kitchen you know the exact ingredients being used and you can always bet that it will be healthier than what will come from a jar. Feel free to play around with the below ingredients and make it your own. (example: choose your favorite blend of red wine to flavor or add a green pepper to the mix for a bit more bite.)
Have fun with it!
- 1 large can diced tomatoes ( no salt added)
- 1 can tomato paste
- 1 medium Vidalia onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2-3 tbs Olive Oil
- 1/2 cup Red Wine
- oregano, basil, salt & pepper
Heat up olive oil in a skillet or sauce pan. Add in diced onion and minced garlic. Keep on low and make sure you don’t burn the garlic. Cook 2-3 minutes then remove from heat and place to the side.
In a large sauce pot add in diced tomatoes, tomato paste and red wine. Stir and cook on low for 5-6 minutes.
Add in onion and garlic mixture and season with dry seasonings. Mix everything together and cover on low for 10-15 minutes making sure to stir every few minutes.
